Sunrise Beach Pottery

I became interested in pottery in the early 1980’s and earned a bachelor’s degree in Art with emphasis in Ceramics at California State University in Sacramento in 1985. Since then I have sold pottery in several places in California and Washington, including some prestigious crafts fairs. I’ve also taught classes in two public pottery studios, first at the University of California Crafts Center in Davis, CA, and more recently in Olympia, WA, at the former OPAS (Olympia Pottery and Art supply), in addition to managing the studios and doing many kiln firings of a variety of types. I moved to Olympia in 1991 and started selling my work at the Olympia Farmers Market in 1994, and at the former Cornerstone Pottery, a downtown cooperative store, around the same time. I have a large customer following in Olympia. I make my work at home, but don’t sell there. I took a long break in 2020-2021 during Covid 19, planning to return in 2022. But my kiln needed rebuilding and I was unable to get the needed parts until the end of the year, due to supply chain issues caused by the pandemic. I returned to the Market in Winter of 2023 but got Covid in February and then was diagnosed with a bone marrow cancer at the end of July. Due to needed treatment with heavy meds, I have not been back, but I’m now in remission and still being treated but feeling much better. So I intend to start selling again, probably on a limited basis at first, as health allows, as a guest vendor, in April or May of 2025.
